How long do Steam refunds take?
Updated August 29, 2026
Steam's general refund rule is a request within 14 days of purchase and less than two hours of playtime, but exceptions and product-specific rules exist. Submit the request through Steam Support rather than relying on a third-party “refund” service.
After Steam approves a refund, the time for funds to appear depends on the payment method. Steam may first show the refund as pending; the bank or payment provider can take additional business days. If the money has not appeared after the provider's stated timeframe, check the original payment account and contact that provider with Steam's confirmation.
A request submitted outside the usual rule is not automatically accepted or automatically rejected. Explain the circumstances honestly and let Support decide. Refund eligibility is separate from uninstalling a game, deleting local files, or disputing a legitimate purchase with a bank.
